GUEST HOST: AMER ZAHID
Cinematic Sound’s celebration of Bernard Herrmann’s 100th anniversary continues with part two of Amer Zahid’s FIRE & PASSION: A TRIBUTE TO BERNARD HERRMANN. In this second and final instalment, Amer presents music from arguably the greatest debut film score of all time to Orson’s Welles’ 1941 classic CITIZEN KANE. He also explores Herrmann’s fruitful collaboration with legendary director Alfred Hitchcock with selections from PSYCHO, THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY, MARNIE and TORN CURTAIN. Amer provides an in-depth commentary on Herrmann’s collaboration with mentor and friend Alfred Newman on THE EGYPTIAN and you’ll also hear selections from the 1955 western THE KENTUCKIAN as well as music from the post-Hitchcock scores to Francois Truffaut’s FAHRENHEIT 451 and Brain DePalma’s OBSESSION. If you missed part one of the series you can listen to it HERE!

Superb editing Erik! 🙂
Thanks Amer. However, you did all the heavy lifting. BTW, thanks to your show I’ve rediscovered a few Herrmann scores that I had forgotten about. 5 Fingers is one of them – which can be heard on Part I – and I forgot how brilliant Elfman and Bartak’s recording of Psycho was. Thanks for all of your hard work, Amer! I’m really looking forward to the Jarre special you have planned!
Thanks Erik, Very encouraging feedback. Am glad to hear that you and certain others were also happy to discover the forgotten Herrmann scores. It was truly fun. Now… getting back to the Jarre special..!
This was just great, Amer! Really enjoyed your two Herrmann tributes and look forward to hearing your Jarre programme. You have reminded me how much of a delight THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY is and how the “Valse Lent” and other parts of the score are evocative of a warm autumnal atmosphere.
Chris
