“A SYMPHONY OF HOPE: THE HAITI PROJECT”
TO HELP PEOPLE OF HAITI, ONE YEAR AFTER EARTHQUAKE
Today you can download one of the most important film music related releases of our time. Those are very bold words but I’m confident that after you hear A Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project and read up on what has happened behind the scenes to make this incredible project possible you too will be sharing those same sentiments with me.
Back in March of this year 25 Oscar®, Tony, Grammy and Emmy-winning composers came together along with 90 musicians and a 60-person choir to create a musical benefit for the victims of last year’s earthquake in Haiti. The team also included music executives, supporting recording engineers, copyists and music editors. In all 200 people volunteered their time and expertise to the cause.
The finished project is called A Symphony of Hope and is available exclusively on iTunes beginning today and at CD On Demand (Amazon) October 4.
The score is divided into 5 movements opening with the main theme, an original Haitian melody. It’s a simple tune that is full of passion, heart and soul and goes through many beautiful variations throughout the course of the symphony.
NOW PLAYING: “Movement I: Wongolo” | Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project
Each composer contributes 8-32 bars of music to the piece and then passes it along to the next composer to continue the journey. The first thought that came to my mind was wouldn’t 25 different composers with 25 different styles clash? While each composer’s distinct voice does come out in the piece the symphony comes together as a singular whole as if only one person had written it. It’s quite a remarkable achievement!
The score goes through a gamut of emotions from festive to agonizing. Brutally violent to hopeful.
NOW PLAYING: “Movement II: Devastation” | Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project
The entire symphony is just under 52 minutes in length and ends with a flourish that sends shivers down your spine and tears down your face. It’s the type of music that only film composers can write!
NOW PLAYING: “Movement V: Hope” | Symphony of Hope: The Haiti Project
The music was conducted by Lucas Richmond and featured soloists Lizbeth Scott and Carmen Twillie.
This symphony is an emotional roller coaster and is one of the finest pieces of music I’ve heard this year! I highly recommend you all purchase this album either today via iTunes or on October 4th via Amazon On-Demand CD-r. 100% of the proceeds will benefit Haiti via the Haitian non-profit organization.
