HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
A few months ago, my old station manager at WROCK Radio, Gerry Gallagher, contacted me out of the blue and asked me to join a radio station that he was working for in Scotland.
I’m not sure how many of you were around when I worked for Gerry, where I produced a weekly two-hour show for WROCK Radio, an online streaming radio station with a large audience, beginning in 2016. Being a part of the station helped us grow our audience significantly. If you’re interested, I’ve included a link to my pilot episode for WROCK Radio below.
The real benefit of joining WROCK Radio was getting back into the discipline of producing weekly soundtrack radio, which was something I hadn’t done since I was on terrestrial radio at C101.5 FM between 1996-2006. While producing two hours of programming is extremely hard work, especially with the way I like to produce things, it does push me to get new shows out on a more regular basis, which is important to keep our audience engaged with the show.
Gerry is now semi-retired living in the Isle of Bute, Scotland and is now helping schedule shows for the local community radio station, Bute Island Radio, which is heard on 96.5 FM locally and streaming live to the world. In his email to me back in May, he asked if I was interested in joining the station and bringing Cinematic Sound Radio along with me. I immediately jumped at the opportunity. The station reach includes Paisley and Glasgow, which is a huge catchment area.
WHEN WILL IT AIR?
I finished editing and delivering the first episode to the station manager a few weeks ago, and that show will be uploaded to the main RSS feed soon. The second episode will premiere at 1 PM (UK), 8 AM (EST). All new episodes of my show will premiere first live on Bute Island Radio on Wednesdays at 1 PM (UK), 8 AM (EST) and then afterwards will be uploaded to the main podcast feed. And if you are CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PATRON you can get a first listen to each new episode before anyone else.
So, it looks like you’ll be once again getting weekly programs for me, which is exciting but also a bit scary. I nearly burnt myself out producing weekly programs back in 2018, so, this time I’ve decided to cut the show in half from what was a two-hour program on WROCK Radio, down to a one-hour show for Bute Island Radio. Having just finished two episodes, I found that writing the script was a lot easier and editing, of course, was cut down significantly. I might find myself enjoying this incarnation of the show more so than any other version of the show I’ve produced in the past.
WHAT’S THE FORMAT?
The format of the show is similar to the WROCK shows. My goal is to play at least one brand-new score a week unless it is a themed show. I’m also going to bring back the John Williams Track of the Week. I will also play a selection from a new recording of a previously existing score that could be from anything like a new recording of a Golden Age classic to a new interpretation of a brand new score. I’ll also be featuring music from a classic score and I will end each program with an end title suite.
The biggest benefit of bringing the show to Bute Island Radio is to have the show heard by a completely brand-new audience. I don’t know how many people listen to the station, but if I can get one new listener because of this new venture, I’ll be happy.
And if you are interested, here is what the WROCK Radio version of the show sounded like.
I hope you enjoy this new version of the show. Thanks for reading.
