OCTOBER 28, 2014 – Up next we’ll be playing music from a film released this year called DEEP IN THE DARKNESS composed by one of Brian Tyler’s main orchestrators, Matthew Llewellyn. A fine composer in his own right (we featured music from his score to DEAD SOULS last year) Llewellyn wrote a thematically rich score for the film with just the right amount of scares and terror to keep you up at night.

OCTOBER 29, 2014 – CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO’S 2014 Halloween Special continues with one of the very best scores Christopher Lennertz has ever composed. This gothic score made my top 10 list in 2002 and is one of my favourite horror genre scores.

OCTOBER 30, 2014 – It is an absolute pleasure to finally play Goblin’s 1977 prog-rock horror score SUSPIRIA on the program for you. This album has been in my collection for many years and is one of the wildest, craziest, most original, out of this world, down right creepy film scores these ears have ever heard. Don’t listen to this one alone in the dark!

OCTOBER 31, 2014 – The 2014 CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO Halloween Special concludes with music from three albums. This suite opens up with Jocelyn Pook’s eerie “Masked Ball” cue from Stanley Kubrick’s last film, EYES WIDE SHUT. We then move onto Harry Manfredini’s energetic main title cue from FRIDAY THE 13 PART 6. The suite concludes with a suite from the QUATERMASS TRILOGY featuring the string and percussion only music composed by James Bernard. Happy Halloween Everyone!
Great show as always, Erik! Graves’ score (and what an appropriate name for a composer to feature at Halloween) reminds me some of Goldsmith’s “Planet of the Apes,” too, along with that wonderful seasonal fanfare! It also reminds me some of Goldsmith’s “Alien,” about 14 minutes into the podcast; and, of course, it sounds faithful to the venerable Death-as-fiddler tradition. (Shades of Hermann’s Psycho at the end!)
Looking forward to the rest of your selections this week. Orchestral, classical, symphonic music has always been a large part of my Halloween observances, and I know I can count on you to introduce me to some good stuff!
Great to read another fine comment from you, Mike! Thanks for participating and thanks as always for tuning in. Lots of cool stuff coming up this week!
