On episode three on THE ARCHIVE, host Jason Drury presents some of the finest music from the horror genre.
The program opens up with music from HELLRAISER by Christopher Young, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
With the current success of Andrés Muschietti’s remake of IT, Jason goes back to 1990 and features a suite from the acclaimed TV mini-series by Richard Bellis. You’ll then hear selections from one of James Horner’s earliest score for the 1981 shape-shifting werewolf movie WOLFEN. Jason then features selections from the 1987 horror comedy THE MONSTER SQUAD by Bruce Broughton.
In honour of director Tobe Hooper, who passed away this past August. you’ll hear selections from Jerry Goldsmith’s 1982 score to POLTERGEIST.
You’ll also hear a suite 1999’s THE SIXTH SENSE by James Newton Howard and Michael Giacchino’s score for LET ME IN FROM 2010.
To end off the program you’ll hear selections from Richard Stone’s score for the cult horror/western mash-up SUNDOWN: THE VAMPIRE IN RETREAT from 1989 and a concert suite of Jerry Goldsmith Academy Award-winning score to THE OMEN from 1976.

Dear Jason,
Thank you so much for including my music in your Halloween broadcast. You did a wonderful job stringing tracks together to create the suite. I’m sending you a balloon as thanks!
All best,
Richard
A lovely show from start to finish, and always nice to hear things I don’t presently have too. After the lovely hellraiser it was interesting to hear it. Good job done there, though it always terrifies me because the mood in the tv series was just so damn scary. As to Wolfen few echoes of later things there. Monster squad good too lots of little melodies that broughton is always great at doing.
Of course always liked a bit of Jerry and the poltergeist one oozes his quality, though James Newton Howard’s the sixth sense a little star too. As was the following one by giacchino. Sundown always a fave of mine and thence to the omen which still scares and enlightens today. Good show Jason.
Some very fine selections Jason. Especially enjoyed Monster Squad and Sundown: Vampire in Retreat. Enjoyed it!
Great show well done Mr Drury
