I just hunted down the CD of Talgorn’s Asterix Aux Jeux Olympiques based on your recommendation. Great stuff that I didn’t know about before! thanks

So glad you’re back, Erik! Movie music, especially when presented and annotated by you, makes the day a lot better!

Great choices of scores. I really enjoyed your “menu” in this episode, and look forward to many more! “Avatar” not a film I’d choose to watch again, but I enjoyed hearing Horner’s music in isolation – never have before. I like it, but it *does* sound tailor-made for a Walt Disney World attraction, doesn’t it? I bet it’s fun to hear in the park.

Haven’t made it through the whole episode yet, but definitely will later. Thanks for a great show, Erik!

Like Mark M, I too bought the Asterix off the back of this: great stuff. Talgorn’s a big talent and somewhat under-recognised I think. Olympic Games was the one Asterix book that I had as a kid, and I didn’t even know they’d made a film of it.
Secondly, I downloaded the “Escape from Tomorrow”: now, I’m the sort of person who’s still wedded to physical media, so when a soundtrack I like is digital-only, I do tend to burn myself a CDR after download. At 22mins this felt like it’d be a waste of an 80min disc but then I remembered something and searched around in my spare room … I still had a few 8cm mini-CDRs left over from a job I left about 15 years ago! Their capacity when used for audio? 23mins! Fits like a glove (as Ace Ventura might say) 😀
So – thanks for the recommendations on both of those. They do go to show that (contrary to some people’s moans) good old-fashioned-style film music IS still being written!
