TOP 10 | MOST PLAYED TRACKS

The CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO top 10 is a quick run through my film music collection dedicated to a particular theme. If this is something you like (you can leave feedback below in the comment area) then every week or every other week I will pick a topic that I either choose or you a suggestion for me. Again, email me or send me a Tweet with suggestions. The top 10 can be about anything. Favourite Alan Silvestri scores, favourite tracks from 1989, favourite chase cues, etc.  You get the drift. This show will hopefully inject a little more audience participation and fun into the program.

During this inaugural top 10 program, I’m going to play for you, my most played tracks of all time according to iTunes.  Enjoy!

Thanks for tuning in! And as always, I would love to read your feedback and get your suggestions on how I can make this particular show better. I’m also encouraging requests for this show. So, if there is something you want to hear please let me know. Send an EMAIL with your name and what track you want to hear.

PLAYLIST: None. Why ruin the fun!

Great idea, Erik! I *loved* hearing the story about “Hurley’s Handouts”! The power of music. (I also enjoyed the statistical breakdown on your collection toward the end – amazing!)

In addition to Top Tens based on your own personal preferences, how about some idiosyncratic Top Ten Lists? Maybe:

“Top 10 Notable Quotations in Movie Scores of *Other* Movie Scores”? Maybe that’s too niche, but I can think of Williams quoting Yoda’s theme in the one track from E.T., for example… there must be other, even more interesting examples?

“Top 10 Cues Composed in the Style of Another Composer”?

“Top 10 Most Significant Movie Score Cues”? (cues that broke new ground, proved to have enormous cultural resonance, whatever… game-changing score cues; what 10 cues would be on a film score music class syllabus?)

“Top 10 Rejected Cues”? (cues from rejected scores, or cues that got replaced)

“Top 10 Sci-Fi Cues (Not By John Williams )”?

Meanwhile, I liked the re-record of the Imperial March, although it’s a bit fast for my tastes. My appreciation of that melody is under attack at the moment, though – my eight-year-old daughter’s theater camp composed lyrics for it which I can’t get out of my head: “We are from the da-ah-ah-ark side; Darth Va-der is a-bout to at-tack!” Etc. 😉

As always, so grateful you take the time to put this show out for all of us to enjoy!

Thanks again for the wonderful post, Michael. I love the idea of top rejected cues. We always talk about rejected score but not so much about rejected cues. My all time favourite is… actually, I’ll save that for the show. 😉

Good show! Definitely looking forward to more Top 10 shows! As you said, it’s open to all sorts of variations: top video game tracks, top tracks from the 80s, top TV tracks (or do one track each from the top ten played TV soundtracks). Keep up the good work!

Superb ideas, Richard. All of them have been noted. The TV tracks idea is intriguing. Thanks for listening!
